Resident Evil 2 Is Finally Getting The Remake It Deserves

Although the Sony branded trailers imply the game is an exclusive, it's actually not and is also being released on Xbox One and PC.

"Simply put, without PlayStation, there wouldn't be Resident Evil!". You can see the showcase below as well as the announcement trailer.

The remade version of the same game will be arriving more than 20 years later on January 25, 2019, though Capcom has started accepting preorders today.

In a press release sent to The Outerhaven not too long after the reveal, CAPCOM Producer Yoshiaki Hirabayashi said the following about the trailers.

We're due to see the game in detail tomorrow, when E3 proper begins.

Twenty years ago, Resident Evil 2 was a breakout hit for the original PlayStation and helped solidify the survival horror genre. That's a pretty quick turnaround for a game that just got its first trailer.

The developers have announced that Resident Evil 2 Remake is going to have something for both veterans and those who are totally new to the survival horror series. Both Leon and Claire have their own separately playable campaigns, allowing players to see the story from both characters' perspective. The fate of these two fan favorite characters is in players hands as they work together to survive and get to the bottom of what is behind the terrifying attack on the city.

It's hard to describe just how much work seems to have gone into this remake; they've created photorealistic models from the ground up and will even have a few new surprises in terms of level design.

Also added is real-time damage to zombies, so if you use a shotgun on one of them, their bodies will show the effects immediately and continue to degradate. All of the memorable bits from RE2 seem to be present and correct, with rookie cop Leon S. Kennedy embroiled in a zombie outbreak in the heart of Raccoon City. Players will feel they're in the shoes of heroes Leon and Claire, terrified to step out of the light for fear of what flesh-eating nightmares might await them in the darkness.
