Hearn calls Wilder's bluff on Joshua title fight

Hearn calls Wilder's bluff on Joshua title fight

As evidence of the moneymaking potential, the Los Angeles Times' Lance Pugmire reported in May that Finkel and Al Haymon were prepared to give Joshua $50 million guaranteed if he was willing to fight Wilder in the United States.

But 32-year-old WBC champion Wilder uploaded a message to his Twitter and Instagram accounts piling pressure on Joshua to take the fight, declaring he would accept the unified WBA, IBF, and WBO champion's deal to travel to the UK.

Wilder's manager Shelly Finkel later told ESPN they had officially accepted terms to a fight in the UK.

World heavyweight champion Deontay Wilder claims he has agreed to fight Britain's Anthony Joshua in the UK.

"The story is very simple and that is Deontay Wilder today, accepted the terms that Anthony Joshua's team gave us", Finkel told World Boxing News in an interview on Monday.

The location was one of the main points holding up the fight agreement before Wilder's camp eventually agreed to hold it in the United Kingdom.

If Joshua doesn't fight Wilder next, he'll make a mandatory defense of his WBA title against Russia's Alexander Povetkin (34-1, 24 KOs).

"Now we will see if they live up to it or if they try to go through with the fight with [mandatory challenger Alexander] Povetkin first".

"We're going to dealing with that and making sure he gets the relevant paperwork". We see this as a Wembley fight and we're quite limited in that respect, obviously American pay-per-view and TV have to be considered so we've got to speak to them about what date suits them.

And the fact that we've lost four weeks in waiting for an answer from Deontay Wilder makes the fight happening in 11 or 12 weeks of this magnitude unlikely. "But obviously this Canelo fight on September 15 makes it a little more hard with U.S. TV. It's up to them to choose".

Joshua returned to Principality Stadium on March 31, when he out-boxed New Zealand's Joseph Parker to win a unanimous decision in their heavyweight title unification fight.

Joshua wants to continue fighting on home soil and believes he is the A-side of negotiations because he owns three of the major world titles.

Surely Joshua will agree and send the contract to Wilder.

"I think if it is before Povetkin then it runs on October/November".
