Avengers: Infinity War passes $2 billion at the global box office

The House of Mouse has had a huge year with its Marvel Studios brand thanks to "Infinity War" and the cultural phenomenon "Black Panther".

Marvel's Avengers: Infinity War set the record for the highest opening weekend box office collection in India.

The Walt Disney Co. announced Tuesday that Infinity War reached the mark on Monday, about seven weeks (48 days) after release. Domestically, Avengers: Infinity War is the fifth-highest grossing film of all time, with $656.1 million. It's also, it should be said, Disney's second film to crack $2 billion after Star Wars: The Force Awakens, which completed its run with $2,068,223,624 worldwide.

Fans first noticed Hawkeye's absence following the release of the movie's first trailer November of a year ago.

‘Avengers: Infinity War’ Becomes Fourth Pic To Cross $2 Billion Global Mark

Much of Infinity War's total has come from global box office receipts, particularly in China, where it's earned $369.7 million and become the country's third highest-grossing film ever. I have a feeling we're going to be having this exact same discussion again then, and if Avengers 4 is anywhere as good as Infinity War was, then I can't wait to see it dominate as well. Infinity War posted opening weekend numbers of over Rs 120 crore.

Other top territories include United Kingdom ($95.1M), South Korea ($92.8M), Brazil ($65.9M), Mexico ($59.9M), Australia ($46.3M), France ($45.3M), India ($43.6M), Germany ($43.4M), Russian Federation ($34.4M), and Japan ($33.6M).

The mega film is the culmination of all the events put together in the Marvel Cinematic Universe which began with Iron Man in 2008. Infinity war ended on a cliffhanger when half of the universe was wiped off after Thanos did his infamous snap of the fingers.

Though Hawkeye is not in the Avengers: Infinity War, his status is addressed in the movie. It's the only the tenth film in China's history to earn more than 2 billion yuan in total and just the third import film to do so.
