E3 Trailer: Ubisoft Space Opera ‘Beyond Good and Evil 2’

Ubisoft showed off more of Beyond Good & Evil 2 during its Electronic Entertainment Expo event today in Los Angeles. Though, one of the major twists that played out in the trailer showed Jade-the protagonist from the original Beyond Good & Evil-to be this game's antagonist. Actor Joseph Gordon-Levitt stepped onto the stage to introduce Hit Record, the company that will help get your designs and assets into Beyond Good & Evil 2. Players will control their own custom space pirate, tasked with navigating from planet to planet doing general piratey things.

The original "Beyond Good and Evil", a classic 3D action-adventure game, was released for PlayStation 2, Xbox, Nintendo Game Cube, and PC in fall 2003.

When asked about Ubisoft Montpellier's progress on the new "Beyond Good and Evil 2" a year ago, Ancel told The Verge that the project was still in "day zero of development".

Ubisoft plans to keep eager players interested with their 'Space Monkey Program', providing regular updates and, rather boldly, giving fans the chance to upload content to be included in the game. Ubisoft still hasn't revealed many details about the game's narrative, although the publisher did previously confirm that the title is a prequel that takes place shortly after Jade was born.

The game itself isn't shipping for a while (probably a long while since it's in "pre-alpha"), but as part of the rollout anyone can create art and music and submit them to the hitRECord website. The best stuff will appear in Beyond Good and Evil 2, giving the game a "real world" connection.
