North Korea leader Kim arrives in Singapore ahead of Trump meeting

Kim's explosive personality is particularly relevant because going into the North Korea summit, President Donald Trump has suggested that the meeting will be less about preparation and more about attitude.

Kim arrived a few hours earlier to meet with Singaporean Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong.

President Trump, meanwhile, touched down on Air Force One at the Paya Lebar airbase shortly before 8.30 p.m. local time.

As Kim's motorcade approached his hotel in Singapore another two North Korean cameramen in black suits emerged through the sun-roof of a black SUV, filming the crowd.

Trump has expressed keenness about his summit with Kim and called it a "one-time opportunity".

There are worries from some quarters about Kim's intentions and his willingness to actually follow through on any commitment he might make in Singapore. While hostilities ended with an armistice in 1953, no peace treaty has been signed yet.

The highly anticipated meeting is scheduled to be held at the luxury Capella Hotel on Singapore's Sentosa Island.

For Trump, a successful summit will give him a win on the global stage.

Word does get around, however, and the prospect of a meeting between Kim and Trump had already been on the public's radar.

In advance of the summit, the USA president's favorability rating in South Korea rose 8 points, to 32 percent.

"We're meeting with the chairman on June 12 and I think it's probably going to be a very successful - ultimately a successful process", Trump said. Kim, whose organization helps defectors escape North Korea and China and assists them once they reach South Korea, said that, even now, the situation is much the same; North Koreans know their government is lying.

Kim's popularity in South Korea also increased significantly after the inter-Korean summit in April, where he was seen by many as nonthreatening and open to compromise.

Like the real-life leaders, fake Kim and Trump are no strangers to controversies of their own. "I really really appreciate it, because we are really cash-strapped", Howard X said as dozens lined up for their turn with him.

The North invaded the South in 1950 and the ensuing war saw US-led United Nations troops backing Seoul fight their way to a stalemate against Pyongyang's forces which were aided by Russian Federation and China, before the conflict ended in stalemate and an armistice which sealed the division of the peninsula.

"I'll give whatever support is needed to my friends, President Trump and Marshall Kim Jong Un", he wrote.

Conservative groups have also held demonstrations, urging the USA not to compromise with the repressive Kim government that has broken previous denuclearization promises. Trump played the triumphant role Kim was writing for him, seemingly unaware North Korea would expect a reciprocal peace gesture from the United States when he sat down with Kim, if not before.

In an update on traffic arrangements, the Singapore Police Force said there will be temporary road closures in the vicinity of Anderson Road towards Orchard Road and that motorists can expect delays.

"The picture that emerged from literally dozens of interviews bears a striking similarity with the man he has emerged into today", a source who spoke to Axios said.

Just meeting with Trump will also give Kim a recognition North Korea has long sought, setting him up as global player and equal to the US domestically and, internationally, as the leader of a "normal country" worthy of respect.

"[President Trump] is not going to permit any show of weakness on the trip to negotiate with North Korea", Kudlow said on CNN's State of the Union.
