Hamilton says record-tying seventh Canada GP win may be tougher

Hamilton says record-tying seventh Canada GP win may be tougher

There is no denying that Hamilton, victor of five of the last eight in Montreal, has a level of comfort with the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve that he does not have with any other venue on the Formula One schedule.

On one of Formula One's power circuits, that could prove a double whammy for championship leader Hamilton as he bids to match Michael Schumacher's mark of seven victories in Canada against rivals who will all be on upgraded power units.

Mercedes have announced they will have an upgraded power unit at the Canadian Grand Prix for all the cars powered by the Silver Arrows team's engines on the Formula 1 grid.

While Ferrari and Red Bull will have fresh engines, Mercedes will go with the same power unit.

"I mean, it is a power circuit and there is power lost over the life of an engine and all I'm hoping for is that if I'm on the seventh race at a power hard circuit on the engine I just want to see it through to the end".

Ferrari have added an engine upgrade to their Canada to-do list.

Montreal is the seventh of 21 rounds this season and the circuit's long straights and its power-sensitive nature means it is often a target for engine upgrades. That is my only concern. "I want to win races and I'm sure it will come".

Even with a diminished power unit Hamilton can not be overlooked on one of his favourite tracks.

The 33-year-old Briton, who loves spending time in North America where he has additionally won the United States Grand Prix four times, arrived in Montreal on Tuesday night after visiting California, reportedly to check on his dogs Roscoe and Coco, and NY.

Canada is one of Hamilton's favourite circuits, the one where he took his first grand prix win in 2007 and where he has won and started from pole position six times.

Certainly all the ingredients are in place for another thrilling Sunday afternoon as Hamilton, Ferrari's Sebastian Vettel and Ricciardo bring their battle to Montreal. It has the best combination of a great track, challenging street circuit characteristics, and it's a fun city to visit.

"I've always enjoyed racing in Montreal". "There's 21 circuits and it's impossible to be ideal on every single one".

"It's the one I look forward to the most and I am excited to be going back home".
