SpaceX prepares for Monday launch of SES-12 satellite

SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket is ready to liftoff early Monday morning from Cape Canaveral carrying the SES 12 satellite.

SpaceX later tweeted "Successful deployment of SES-12 to a geostationary transfer orbit confirmed". The initial launch was scheduled for last Friday but was canceled for more testing. This satellite will provide video, data, and other communications services across the Asia-Pacific region and the Middle East. But the company announced the need for additional tests to the rocket's upper stage.

The Falcon 9 rocket soared off Launch Complex 40 at 12:45 a.m.; the launch was delayed 16 minutes because of gusty winds.

The company recently revealed the new Falcon 9 Block 5.

Elon Musk's SpaceX announced back in February previous year that, in late 2018, it would fly two paying space tourists around the Moon and back to Earth.

Elon Musk is the CEO of SpaceX. "We are going to be very rigorous in taking this rocket apart and confirming our design assumptions to be confident that is indeed able to be reused without taking apart", Musk said last month. The first stage successfully landed during a flight in September, but was allowed to crash into the sea Monday because it's being discontinued.

SpaceX has landed these boosters 25 times, and reflown them on a dozen occasions.
