Donald Trump marks Mueller anniversary by claiming Federal Bureau of Investigation 'spied' on his campaign

The tweet was likely in reference to a National Review report suggesting that Fusion GPS co-founder Glenn Simpson's since-retracted claim before the Senate Intelligence Committee previous year that there was a "human source" connected with the Federal Bureau of Investigation on the campaign.

That person met "several times" with campaign national security advisers Carter Page and George Papadopoulos, according to the report, which offered no additional information on the informant's identity or connection with us authorities.

"Really bad stuff!" he tweeted.

Mr Giuliani said on Wednesday that the special counsel's team had informed the president's attorneys recently that prosecutors do not believe they can charge a sitting president with a crime under Justice Department guidelines, signalling they would leave it to Congress to address any possible findings of wrongdoing by Mr Trump.

Trump said referring to a National Review report by Andrew McCarthy published on May 12.

The suggestion seems meant to undercut the work by special counsel Robert Mueller, who is investigating Russian interference in the 2016 election. That has become a politically contentious point, with Mr. Trump's allies questioning whether the F.B.I. was spying on the Trump campaign or trying to entrap campaign officials. "Sorry to the Fake News Media and 'Haters, ' but that's the way it is!"

During a Thursday (Friday NZT) interview on Fox & Friends, Giuliani, a former NY mayor, called for an end to the Mueller probe.

He said Mr Trump would only sit down with Mr Mueller if "we feel there's a way to shorten this thing".

He added: "We're going to have to look into whether we can challenge the legitimacy of the entire investigation".

When Cuomo brought up what Trump told Lester Holt about firing Comey over the Russian Federation investigation, the discussion eventually turned towards Rod Rosenstein's oversight of the Russian Federation special counsel.

After combing through the anti-Trump and pro-Hillary Clinton text messages exchanged by FBI officials Peter Strzok and Lisa Page, McCarthy noted that the texts show "that they obviously opened an investigation late July, early August of 2016".
