Thomas Partey wins Europa League trophy with Atletico Madrid

Atletico Madrid thrashes Marseille with three clean goals at Europa League's final, held on Wednesday in Marseille, France.

Antoine Griezmann was "determined" to land his first major trophy with Atletico Madrid after his double led them to Europa League glory against Marseille.

The France global netted in both halves as Los Rojiblancos carved out a 3-0 win at the Groupama Stadium in Lyon on Wednesday night.

Griezmann now has 29 goals this season, although it was Gabi's late strike that sealed the victory.

Griezmann, 27, has been heavily linked with a move away from the Spanish giants in recent months, with Manchester United and Barcelona keen to land the striker.

As he now looks towards World Cup success with France, Griezmann was pleased to lift a trophy under Atleti boss Diego Simeone.

"I was determined to take the opportunity to win one tonight".

Atletico Madrid charged for far-right banner at Europa final

Regardless of being 3-Zero all the way down to AC Milan at half-time in that Champions League ultimate, Liverpool mounted a second-half comeback to ultimately win the sport on penalties. "Simeone has taught me a lot". "There has been joy and sadness, but I am so happy".

The game carried on regardless, with Rudi Garcia's side well beaten by Diego Simeone's Atletico.

He celebrated both goals with an energetic celebratory dance from popular video game Fortnite, although he couldn't do it as well the second time around as he was quickly mobbed by teammates.

Marseille did not create enough to break down one of Europe's toughest defences and their chances of causing an upset took a blow with Dimitri Payet limping off injured in the first half.

But nothing could disguise Atletico's vast superiority, as it added to its Europa League trophies from 2010 and 2012.

Griezmann's final Atletico game could be Sunday's meeting with Eibar at the Wanda Metropolitano.
