Seaside Awards for Bridlington's beaches

Now Keep Britain Tidy is hoping to get more kids in the water with their Blue Flag and UK Seaside Awards.

They include Blue Flags, Green Coast Awards and Seaside Awards.

"These awards are recognition of their commitment and dedication to keeping our beaches looking their best and making sure they are clean and safe for both residents and visitors alike".

"As we celebrate 30 years of Blue Flag in Wales, it is important to recognise the importance of the awards in attracting tourism to support the local economy, giving our communities a rightful sense of pride and promoting environmental awareness and protection".

Several other Yorkshire coast beaches have been given the Seaside Award, which also celebrates cleanliness and safety.

"Our research shows that almost two thirds (65%) of parents would prefer to visit beaches with Blue Flag or Seaside Award status, so growing the number of beaches with an award is vital to encourage more families to visit our attractive coastline".

"Year of the Sea 2018 is the flawless time to celebrate the success of the past 30 years of the Blue Flag programme - and gives us a fantastic opportunity to make the most the fact that we have more Blue Flag beaches per mile than anywhere else in Britain".

In total, 65 beaches around the country can now proudly fly a Blue Flag - an worldwide award which means visitors can be sure they are clean and safe.

Coun Gillian Campbell, deputy leader of Blackpool Council, said: "Our entire coastline is award-winning which is great news for the millions of people that enjoy it every year". We are committed to creating a great environment on our doorstep for everyone to enjoy and offering a quality mark that shows everyone just how fantastic our beaches can be.

This year, Great Western in Newquay has been awarded a Blue Flag for the first time and the South West held on to its crown as Britain's beach capital, having been awarded 26 Blue Flags and 50 Seaside Awards.
