Lionel Messi gives his honest opinion on Neymar potentially joining Real Madrid

Lionel Messi gives his honest opinion on Neymar potentially joining Real Madrid

Barcelona star Lionel Messi said it would be "terrible" to see his friend and former teammate Neymar signing for Real Madrid.

And since moving to France, Neymar has been in fine form as he helped PSG to a league title and securing Ligue 1 Player of the Season.

Surely, Neymar will be looking to take Brazil all the way to glory this time with the humiliating defeat handed by the mighty Germans from the 2014 World Cup on the back of his mind.

"It would be awful because of what Ney means to Barcelona", Messi told Argentina's TyC Sports on Tuesday, reports Efe news agency.

Messi said that Brazil is most likely to win the 2018 World Cup in Russian Federation because they have really good players, a very steadfast defence and strikers who "kill you".

Therefore, this latest report from Mirror might come as a stark contrast to the Special One's statements, as it claims that the Red Devils are all set to make a mega move for Paris Saint-Germain superstar Neymar.

"If Neymar doesn't leave PSG he will never win anything important", the 46-year-old told Gazzetta dello Sport.

Neymar has been recovering from right foot surgery in March.

Neymar's impressive performance has triggered talks about a potential move to Spain again, this time to the Spanish capital to join Barcelona's arch rivals Real Madrid ahead of next season.

The striker has not played since February, but knows that soccer-mad Brazil hopes he is fit to lead its team to glory in the World Cup.

"I've started training with the ball, I've started shooting and passing and now it's just a case of improving", he added.

"I want to win the Champions League every year, to be a league champion every year. We want to overcome that barrier", he said.
