California governor slams Trump for 'lying' about immigration at 'sanctuary city' roundtable

"@realDonaldTrump is lying on immigration, lying about crime and lying about the laws of CA".

"Now we're going for the full funding for the wall, and we're going to try and get that as soon as possible", Trump said at a roundtable with California municipal leaders who favor his goal of making the U.S. border impervious to illegal immigration.

Beyond immigrants themselves, Trump also took shots at Mexico and Oakland Mayor Libby Schaaf.

Melendez, of Lake Elsinore, said Trump is an "inspiration to a lot of people" and assured him that more Californians than expected support his plan to stop illegal immigration.

He made the remark at a meeting with local officials who are fighting California's new sanctuary state law. They do nothing for us.

"Each of you has bravely resisted California's deadly and unconstitutional sanctuary state laws", Trump told the group gathered in Washington, D.C. "It's insane", he said.

President Donald Trump on Wednesday hammered California for its so-called sanctuary immigration policies, in what appeared to be his latest push to embolden his base leading into the midterm elections.

Trump lashed out in particular at the Los Angeles Police Department, saying the agency in January "arrested an illegal immigrant from Mexico for drug possession".

He vented about the nation's immigration laws, calling them "the dumbest laws on immigration in the world". "In the immigration context, this means it can't require state or local officials to cooperate with federal immigration authorities".

Mr. Trump has often painted members of MS13 - a gang that originated in the United States but with roots in El Salvador - as "vicious" and "killers".

"There could be an MS-13 gang member", she continued, "I know about, if they don't meet a certain threshold, I cannot tell ICE about them". "MS-13, we're grabbing them by the thousands and we're getting them out", he said. "It's becoming very popular", Mr. Trump said. "Part of the problem that we have is our economy is so strong that people are pouring up to get into our economy". "They want border security. And that makes the job even tougher", he said. "Mexico does nothing for us, they do nothing for us".

"Coming out first has a price to pay, and the ACLU has filed a lawsuit against us", Edgar said. Chrysler is opening up now in MI.

House Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy, R-Calif., issued the warning, said a second person who was in the room and spoke on condition of anonymity to describe the private conversation.

The president then listened as each of the officials attending the meeting praised the work his administration is doing to address illegal immigration and discussed their municipalities' efforts to challenge the sanctuary state law.
