Cavs may start Thompson in game two against Celtics

The Boston Celtics beat the Cleveland Cavaliers, 108-83, in Game 1 of the Eastern Conference Finals on Sunday.

James scored 21 points in the first quarter, while Boston recorded only 23 as a team in the quarter. "This is its own game, we have to really come out with that edge that we've been playing with".

Well, historically, James, after a bad game, comes back with a big bang in the next.

James seems determined to have a rebound performance in Tuesday night's Game 2 and was seen warming up and getting shots in early on Tuesday in Boston's TD Garden.

Kevin Love led Cleveland with 17 points and added eight rebounds. This yielded dividends throughout the season, but during the playoffs they again embraced that slower offense.

"I have zero level of concern at this stage", the forward said after an uncharacteristically off-key display that saw him finish with just 15 points while committing seven turnovers. He blocked two shots but also made 7 turnovers.

"The last couple of playoffs, and our meeting at the end of year, they blew us out of the water", Boston guard Marcus Smart said.

A reporter had asked James how the Celtics managed to pull off a quick seven points against the Cavs in the fourth quarter when he gave his play-by-play breakdown.

Thompson said he brings toughness and energy off the bench, but he's ready if called upon to set the tone as a starter.

To me his role modeling and his defensive ability helps rates him better than Lebron as the best player to ever live. Ultimately though, it won't be enough against the much better all-around team in Boston.

But there has been only one time when James' team has lost a Game 1 by a wider margin than Sunday's 25 points: the 2006 second round at Detroit, when the Cavs were dismantled 113-86.

"I thought it was similar to Game 1 against the Pacers", Korver said. "It's another great challenge, another great opportunity to experience something for this team". They're capable of switching nearly anything, their rotations are pristine, and they didn't give up a lot of clean looks, but Cleveland still nevertheless needs to be better. Still, he needs to be a reliable second option for Cleveland to support James against a Celtics team that has a distinct edge in balance.

"He's a tough player", Horford said. "He has a great feel for that". He has averaged 5.8 points and 6.6 rebounds per game this season with the Cavaliers - his seventh in the league.

His Cleveland Cavaliers held a 55-48 lead over Boston at halftime.

And the chief credit goes to Brad Stevens, the innovative coach of the Boston Celtics.

Al Horford had 20 points for the Celtics and met little resistance from Kevin Love, who has been starting at center for Cleveland. Unless something changes the momentum of this series, the Celtics should go ahead 2-0.

The Cavs missed their first 14 3-pointers and finished 4 of 26 from behind the arc.
