Israel defence minister to Syria's Assad: 'throw Iranians out'

Israel defence minister to Syria's Assad: 'throw Iranians out'

He said on Twitter: "Iranian Quds force fired 20 rockets towards forward IDF (Israeli Defence Force) positions on Golan Heights".

It has been blamed for a series of recent strikes inside Syria that have killed Iranians, though it has not acknowledged those raids.

"We came here to pray to God after the victory against Iran" following the United States withdrawal from the nuclear deal, said Aryeh Stern, a rabbi from Jerusalem.

In retaliation for Iran's rocket attack, about 50 Iranian targets in Syria were attacked by IDF forces on Thursday.

Embroiled in scandals at home, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu may also seek a provocation to divert attention from his domestic crises.

Tehran, meanwhile, is under pressure from the USA and Western allies to negotiate a new deal, one that goes beyond restricting the nuclear program to curb Iran's military power in the region. Advisers from Iran's elite Revolutionary Guards, as well as trainers, commanders and experts, are stationed in military bases across the country. Le Maire asked. "Or do we want to say we have our economic interests, we consider we will continue to do trade with Iran?"

The Iranian government is warning that it will take "whatever reciprocal measures it deems expedient" if it is not fully compensated for the USA withdrawal from the nuclear agreement as provided for in the accord.

Mr Rouhani did not mention Israel's strikes in Syria, or those against the Israeli-occupied Golan Heights.

The White House swiftly condemned Iran's "provocative rocket attacks from Syria against Israeli citizens" and expressed strong support for "Israel's right to act in self-defense", while Russian Federation said the Israeli strikes marked a unsafe escalation and urged both Israel and Iran to avoid provoking each other.

Tehran has not completely walked away from the nuclear deal, since the Europeans are still participating.

"Iran strongly condemns. [Israel's] attacks on Syria". Iranian officials have rejected any new accord.

Its overseas minister Sergei Lavrov mentioned "all points must be solved by way of dialogue" and that Russian Federation had warned Israel to keep away from "all actions that might be seen as provocative". The two countries were the main allies of the United States in the region, and Iranian oil was shipped to Israel during the 1973 war.

At the same time, the government said it has tasked the president of the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran with "taking all necessary steps in preparation for Iran to pursue industrial-scale enrichment without any restrictions, using the results of the latest research and development of Iran's courageous nuclear scientists".

Ushakov noted that a critical view of the US move shared by leaders of Russia, France and Germany will help drive them closer despite their stark differences over the war in Syria and the Ukrainian crisis.

Last month, an attack on Syria's T4 air base in the central Homs province killed seven Iranian military personnel.

In Lebanon, Israel, US and Saudi Arabia have a good example of the morass they would be getting into because they failed, despite determined efforts over 36 years, to change the balance of power there against Iran and its ally, Hezbollah.

The war in Yemen, widely seen as a proxy battle between Saudi Arabia and Iran, is another theatre Tehran could exploit to inflict pain on its enemies. In Iraq, Iran sponsors a range of Shiite militias and has close ties to the political leadership. Saudi Arabia already accuses Iran of providing missiles that Yemeni rebels have fired toward Riyadh.
