Embassy Preacher Slammed By Mitt Romney For Bigotry Against Mormons - And Jews

Jeffress, Pastor of First Baptist Church in Dallas, responded to Romney without mentioning him by name. The Anti-Defamation League also expressed their dissent of Jeffress and his involvement in the ceremony.

In a tweet Sunday night, the former MA governor and 2012 Republican presidential nominee criticized Dallas minister Robert Jeffress for his remarks about Jews, Mormons and Islam.

Mitt Romney decried the pastor that President Trump chose for the dedication of the USA embassy in Jerusalem, calling him a "bigot" because of his comments against Mormonism and other faiths.

Southern Baptist preacher Robert Jeffress is notably a keen Trump supporter, and, separately, is known to have called homosexuals "perverts", billed Mormonism "a heresy" from hell, and made derogatory remarks toward Jews. "The fact that I, along with tens of millions of evangelical Christians around the world, continue to espouse that belief is neither bigoted nor newsworthy", he said.

Jeffress told Todd Starnes of Fox News on Sunday that he was "stunned" by Romney's remarks. "That has been the historical position of Christianity for a long time".

Smith then noted before cutting to a commercial break that Jeffress is a Fox News contributor. He said he will thank God for "his faithfulness to Israel for 4,000 years", citing the occasion as another fulfillment of God's promise to Abraham in Genesis 12. Jeffress serves on Trump's evangelical advisory panel and preached at the family's private service on Inauguration Day.

In his ceremonial prayer, Jeffress thanked God "for your providential and powerful protection of this nation from all who would seek to destroy her".

If that's not enough to make your head spin, Christians United for Israel founder Pastor John Hagee will deliver a closing blessing at the ceremony.

We know first-hand that censorship against conservative news is real. The move is seen as a recognition of Jerusalem as the capital of Israel - which President Trump affirmed in a video speech aired at the embassy opening.
