10 kids removed from California home; mother denies abuse

A Fairfield, California, couple was arrested for child neglect, torture, and child abuse by police who say they were forcing their 10 children to live in disgusting conditions.

Upon entering the residence of Ina Rogers, police discovered that nine of her other children, ranging in age from 4 months to 11 years, were living in "unsafe and unsanitary" squalor. The mother, 30-year-old Ina Rogers, faces child neglect charges.

Ina Rogers is insisting all the charges are completely ludicrous.

Authorities say that their investigation revealed years of both physical and mental abuse of the children.

The mother told KNBC that her 10 children slept in one room because they chose to and that the home was messy because of the police search. He is facing seven counts of torture and nine counts of felony child abuse.

Rogers, 30, the children's mother, was arrested on the night of March 31 and booked into Solano County Jail for child neglect. They claimed the children recalled suffering puncture wounds, bruising, and being shot with a pellet gun, according to KNBC.

"With the assistance of Child Welfare Services and the Solano County District Attorney's Office, detectives with the Fairfield Police Department's Family Violence Unit initiated an investigation", police said.

The alleged abuse was done with "sadistic goal", Henry said during a news conference. She declined to elaborate.

"It literally breaks your heart, and you're outraged by how a parent or anyone could commit those acts", Henry said.

Fairfield police Lt. Greg Hurlbut said the children are still in the custody of other family members and "seem to be improving", adding that he has not had a case in his decades as a police officer "where we charged someone with torture of their own children, if that tells you something". He's being held in lieu of $1.5 million bail.

The children's mother, Ina Rogers, a 30-year-old Fairfield resident, was arrested and booked into Solano County Jail for charges of child neglect, police said.

Hurblut said he believed the children had been home-schooled, but couldn't say if authorities had been contacted in the past about their living conditions.

Police say that they returned a boy to his California home after he was reported missing, but then arrested the parents when they discovered the conditions he was living in. She was later released after posting $10,000 bail April 9.

Rogers denied the allegations to reporters outside her home.

Child protection officials made one prior visit to the home several years ago, Rogers said. None of the children required medical care. Children were also victim of physical and emotional abuse. Rogers stated she works the graveyard shift as an EKG technician at a coronary heart monitoring firm and her husband is a tattoo artist. Kids get rebellious and that's all that happened, ' Rogers said.

During the tour, the four-bedroom house in Fairfield, 46 miles (74 kilometers) northeast of San Francisco, was messy with scuffed walls and animal feces in the bathroom. The opposite rooms have been used as a master suite, playroom and meditation room.

'The conditions they saw in my home was me tearing up my house because my son was missing.

She gave reporters a tour of her house on Monday, saying that the police had left a mess when searching the home.
