Google smart display platform release date is fast approaching

Google Assistant support, first announced at CES 2018, uses the TVs' existing remote with its built-in microphone to access the Google Assistant.

With Google Assistant, LG's 2018 ThinQ AI TVs can perform hundreds of voice commands utilizing the company's own smart platform. And smart displays are certainly part of that plan. With over 500 million devices already powered by the voice assistant, Google is responsible to improve the platform. "LG's implementation reflects the importance the company places on creating and providing a more complete, accessible and diverse range of AI services", the company said in a statement.

Additionally, searching for content is even simpler and more convenient with LG TVs.

With Assistant, LG TV users will be able to seamlessly discover and play content and control their TV settings. "Switch to Discovery channel" instantly connects one to information about future travel destinations.

If you're more interested in simply getting more out of the assistant, then Google's Duplex technology should pique your interest. With Google Assistant on LG TVs, you can ask your TV questions in natural language, and it will answer you or take the appropriate actions.

Google Smart Displays combine a voice-assistant smart speaker with the bonus of a screen - and, crucially, access to YouTube, including live TV shows.

LG OLED TVs and LG SUPER UHD TVs with ThinQ AI and the Google Assistant will be available in the United States starting in May with key markets in Europe and Asia to follow. "LG has only begun to scratch the surface of what we will innovate in the AI ecosystem working collaboratively with cutting-edge, industry leading partners such as Google".

Earlier this year, one of the new devices that Google showed off was what it calls a Smart Display. A display has pros for the wider smart home too, such as being able to see a stream from your Nest security camera.
