Here's how Amazon's Alexa will work with Microsoft's Cortana

However, the biggest highlight so far has been the demonstration of an integration between Amazon's Alexa and Cortana. At first, the resulting partnership solution seemed like a convoluted way to access data from either Microsoft's Cortana agent or Amazon's wildly popular Alexa assistant.

Of course, what people really wanted to hear about is when the Cortana-Alexa integration would go live, and unfortunately there was no news on that front.

Aside from the Pixel 2, other devices reported to have support for the Alexa feature include the Google Pixel, Samsung Galaxy S8 Plus, Galaxy S9, Sony Xperia Z5C, One Plus 5, Moto G5 Plus, and more. Details of the partnership were spelled out a bit more, but it's still in its early days as neither company was ready to announce a concrete release time.

The companies have been quiet on the partnership since its initial unveiling, and they didn't debut the Alexa-Cortana service by the end of a year ago, as they originally said they would. This way you can have Cortana execute tasks like sending emails. If you're an Amazon Music subscriber, you can listen to music with your Cortana devices, and if you use Microsoft services, you can access them from Alexa now. There are a lot of things that Cortana can do and Alexa can't. Alexa responded in her own voice: "hi there, this is Alexa". Cortana can help participants to set up meetings, find conference rooms, and set "to do" and other kinds of reminders inside documents. At home the user might say "Alexa, open Cortana" to check on a work meeting or to call up the name of a co-worker. "We both have experience with light rings, although hers is more of a Halo".

Likewise, users are able to invoke Alexa on Windows PC through Cortana just by saying "Hey Cortana, open Alexa". "And we can't wait to see what you build".
