Q1 2018: Apple sells 4 of the top 5 smartphones globally

According to a report by Strategy Analytics, iPhone X shipped 16 million units, followed by iPhone 8 with 12.5 million units, iPhone 8 Plus with 8.3 million units. Buffet, who bought an additional 75 million Apple shares during the first quarter, confirmed in a CNBC interview that he added more Apple to his investment vehicle's portfolio after the end of past year.

No company benefited more from that cut than Apple, which had accumulated more than $250 billion outside the US during the past decade, thanks to the huge popularity of the iPhone and other products. "When combined, Apple today accounts for four of the world's six most popular smartphone models", the post added. The iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus were just behind it and ahead of all competition.

"We estimate Xiaomi Redmi 5A shipped 5.4 million units for fifth place and 2 percent market share worldwide in Q1 2018". Credit has to be given to the Samsung Galaxy S9 for coming in sixth on the list. While the flagship iPhone X may not have matched the hype from its launch late past year, the device's $999 (roughly Rs. 66,700) starting price helped boost phone revenue growth 14 percent. Reacting to robust Q4 numbers, Apple share price rallied 4 per cent after the closing bell and ended the regular session up 2.3 per cent. Second, it was the best-selling smartphone in China. It makes me suspect that perhaps initial demand for the iPhone X was so high that it made Apple think it would be a somewhat larger percentage of the iPhone product mix overall, so it cranked up iPhone X production.

iPhone X was the bestselling smartphone of Q1 2018, a Strategy Analytics report has claimed.

During its earnings call on Tuesday with investors, Apple said it expects iPhone sales to remain strong in the next quarter too. After that, the Samsung Galaxy S9 Plus isn't doing particularly bad for itself. The S9 Plus delivers an attractive, bezel-less, curved-screen design, a rich portfolio of software apps, and best-in-class retail distribution across dozens of countries. At number five, comes Xiaomi with the Redmi 5A that was well received in India and China. Xiaomi has captured the Indian and Chinese market through its high-volume sales channels and key retail partners.
