Unruly passenger removed from Miami to Chicago flight

Unruly passenger removed from Miami to Chicago flight

Jacob Garcia, a passenger on an American Airlines flight bound for Chicago was removed following a disagreement with another passenger on Sunday, April 22, 2018.

His former legal guardian told The Post it was out of character for Garcia, who was reportedly a straight-A veterinary school student who loves animals and people.

When Garcia was carried by law enforcement officers from the aircraft other passengers clapped and cheered.

The other passengers were eventually allowed back on.

A flight attendant moved Garcia to a seat away from the couple but he then "started making louder racial slurs", Ennis said. According to the Miami-Dade Police Department's arrest report, Garcia was moved to a different seat after the first incident, but "began to scream and insult" the woman and her boyfriend and became involved in an altercation with another passenger.

Officers from the Miami-Dade Police Department attempted to remove Garcia peacefully, but after he locked his legs around a chair and resisted arrest, police were forced to use a taser gun to stun him.

While in the police cruiser, Garcia caused $150 in damage by kicking the "driver-side rear window out of alignment", the New Times reported.

Garcia continued to yell and ask why he was being removed, and after the three officers got him under control, he was removed. Garcia continues to resist as the officer who warned Garcia reaches for a taser on his belt. "The same passenger was subsequently arrested by law enforcement", American Airlines said in a statement to ABC News.

Once Garcia had been escorted off the plane, he collapsed to the ground in an attempt to slow down the officers' efforts, police said. Garcia was later brought to Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center, where he was charged with battery, depriving an officer of a firearm, criminal mischief and disorderly conduct, officials said.

A spokesperson for the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center confirmed to PEOPLE Garcia is being held on a $6,000 bond and does not now have a court date scheduled.
