Protests in Yerevan: dozens of detainees

According to the publication, today, the participants of the protest action in Yerevan, entered the building of the Armenian state pedagogical University.

Periodically, there are also skirmishes between drivers of vehicles blocked the protesters. Authorities said 46 people - including six police - sought medical help. Serzh Sargsyan, who held the office for almost a decade, had promised he wouldn't seek the key job of prime minister. He resigned as president a week earlier and, under a new constitution that makes the prime minister the country's most powerful figure, is set to extend his unpopular rule indefinitely. He also made clear that "in effect" he was not beaten up by the police.

A group of protesters were camped out in front of a riot-police line on a central Yerevan thoroughfare, with rolls of razor wire separating the two sides.

Opposition leaders have accused Sarksyan of changing the nation's political system to ensure he can remain in power, and have been holding protest rallies in recent weeks. Many followed his lead by offering police officers tulips.

The scuffles were short-lived, as the police were able to repel the offensive and push the demonstrators back. "I'm ready to take on this responsibility", he said in an interview with the Russian newspaper Izvestiya.

Reacting to the news, the crowd led by Pashinyan tried to storm the National Assembly building.

Later Pashinyan commented on his status: "Hands injured". Pashinyan returned to the protesters after having treatment in hospital: he had been wounded in clashes at the Baghramyan Avenue.

In the crowd of protesters by the police was detonated stun grenades. After closing this part, the students moved towards the police headquarters, Koryun- Heratsi and closed this crossroad as well.

On April 11, a caustic yellow-green smoke enveloped the meeting room of the Armenian parliament - members of the opposition faction "Yelk" ("Way Out") Ararat Mirzoyan and Lena Nazaryan lit a "torch of freedom" of three smoke bombs.
