Poulter leads by one, Pan in fourth at Hilton Head

World number 46 Kodaira was coming off his best major showing, and what had been his top U.S. result, with a share of 28th at last week's Masters. But the 22-year-old from South Korea faltered over his final nine holes of regulation, with three bogeys to fall into the tie with Kodaira.

But it was Japan's Kodaira who vaulted to the top of the leader board with one of the low rounds of the day, a five-under 66 that put him in the clubhouse at 12-under, where he needed help to even get into a playoff.

April 14, 2018; Hilton Head, SC, USA; Ian Poulter hits from the fairway of the 18th hole during the third round of the RBC Heritage golf tournament at Harbour Town Golf Links. He made the cut and finished 54th at the WGC-Mexico Championship in March and tied for 28th at the Masters earlier this month-his best finish at a major tournament.

Kim struggled with his putter as he missed an eight-footer for birdie at the 13th, three-putted the 15th for bogey and squandered another chance from inside 10 feet at the par-four next.

The pair returned to the 18th and both parred their next two visits to the hole, before Kodaira drained a 25-foot birdie at the third extra hole - the par-three 17th - to complete an unlikely victory.

Kim thought the increased winds slowed down the greens, making putts more hard on the final nine holes. "I wish some of those putts would have dropped".

Entering the final round five back, Kodaira closed the gap quickly, making three consecutive birdies to open his round at Harbour Town and adding four more on the day. That game kicked in once more in the final round, with six birdies on the way to the playoff.

Finishing in a tie for third at 11-under were Luke List and Bryson DeChambeau, who also carded a five-under 66 after Saturday's four-over 75 that knocked him out of contention. He said he plans to work things out over the break and "be ready for the Players". Two late double-bogeys derailed his round. The weather, while overcast and windy at times, remained calm enough to get in the final round without disruption.
