Netanyahu: 'Full Support' for US Syria Strikes

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu praised the US for the joint missile strikes it carried out with the United Kingdom and France that targeted three chemical weapons facilities in Syria. Earlier this month, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced he had signed a deal with the United Nations to resettle thousands of African asylum-seekers in the West on the condition Israel granted an equal number of migrants temporary residency status.

Netanyahu said he told May over the phone on Saturday night that the airstrike sent "an important worldwide message of zero tolerance for the use of non-conventional weapons". The Douma attack killed over 40 people, with hundreds wounded by exposure to chemical agents.

Netanyahu said Syrian president Bashar al-Assad must understand that "his provision of a forward base for Iran and its proxies endangers Syria".

"The United States and its allies have no proof and, without even waiting for the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons to take a position, have carried out this military attack", said the foreign ministry in a statement.

Israel is endorsing the decision to use military action in Syria.

The premier said he spoke with May on Saturday night following the joint strikes, which targeted three alleged chemical weapons facilities in Syria. The armed Iranian-backed Shi'ite movement Hezbollah, which has an extensive missile arsenal, last fought a war with Israel in 2006.

Punitive US-led strikes in Syria on Saturday are justified and are an "important signal" to Iran, Syria and Lebanon's "Hezbollah", Israeli officials said.

Israel similarly coordinated its alleged attack in Syria on April 9 with the United States before it was launched, but not with Russian Federation, despite the two countries having established a coordination hotline to avoid clashes over Syria. The coalition strikes reportedly caused heavy damage to Syria's chemical weapons infrastructure.
