Seahawks sign QB Stephen Morris, fuel Colin Kaepernick controversy

ESPN's Adam Schefter reported Friday morning that the Seattle Seahawks are signing Morris, the former University of Miami starter and former standout at Miami's Monsignor Pace High.

This is a developing story.

However, NFL network's Ian Rapoport said the NFL team postponed the 30-year-old's workout due to there not being a "firm plan" in place and not because of Kaepernick's refusal to end his protest.

A source close to the situation told the sports news site that Seattle still is considering bringing in Kaepernick for a tryout, and no decisions are final.

Morris' addition to the team doesn't weed out the option for other backup quarterbacks on the Seahawks. They released backup quarterback Trevone Boykin after a domestic assault accusation from his girlfriend. He began kneeling during the playing of the national anthem during the 2016 preseason to protest police brutality and racial injustice in the United States.

Kaepernick himself was deposed by the NFL's lawyers on Tuesday as the collusion case moves forward. As of now, Russell Wilson and Morris are the only QBs on Seattle's roster.

Morris also spent time with the Philadelphia Eagles, Indianapolis Colts, and the Washington Redskins in 2018 before they waived him.

The team told CNN that a scheduled workout planned for this past Monday was postponed but that it was halted because Kaepernick's representatives couldn't provide Kaepernick's long-term plan for non-football commitments.

Kaepernick reportedly told the team he was focused exclusively on football and wouldn't agree to any preconditions, according to USA Today.
