Uber Partners With Getaround For 'Uber Rent' Service

We share numerous same goals as the 600 cities we serve, and are committed to addressing the same challenges: reducing individual auto ownership, expanding transportation access and helping governments plan future transportation investments.

"We're going beyond cars". Working with SharedStreets and D.C. transportation agencies, Uber will study how different transportation modes are used and how they affect city streets and sidewalks.

Uber is getting into auto rentals.

The platform launched in January, though those who wanted to use the Uber Bike by Jump service were required to join a waitlist. Earlier this week Uber announced a partnership with bike-share company JUMP, allowing users to rent bikes via the Uber app. Uber has been piloting the JUMP bikes in San Francisco and today announced it will expand the program to Washington, D.C. And, for now, the rental vehicle option is only available in San Francisco.

"At Masabi our mission has always been to make it quicker and easier to get around cities using a range of transit options and in Uber, we've found a flawless partner to help us further that mission", said Brian Zanghi, CEO of Masabi. They could all do it without leaving the Uber app. Call it ...

"Having a greater variety of transportation modes at your fingertips helps make it increasingly easy to live without a vehicle", Khosrowshahi wrote on Uber's website. The scheme doesn't appear to have a catchy name just yet (Uber Transit?), but we do know that it involves mobile ticketing company Masabi.

In addition to today's rental auto deal with Getaround, Uber announced a partnership with London-based Masabi, a mobile ticketing company that Uber said will help customers book and use public transit tickets directly within the Uber app.

So far, Uber's new "toys" are available in San Francisco and Washington DC, with around 250 bikes.

Uber is adding multiple new transit products into its app.

Uber Rent will launch in San Francisco later this month. He also said the company is stepping up the amount of data it shares with cities where it's active.

There is now a wait list for San Francisco residents who want to try out the new feature.

Masabi has partnerships with transit systems in Boston, Los Angeles, Las Vegas and NY, as well as train and transit operators in Europe. Making it easier for people to take multimodal journeys using shared private and public transit options together will help provide a real alternative to private vehicle ownership. Uber Movement will now be available in 12 more cities: Amsterdam, Bangalore, Brisbane, Cairo, Hyderabad, Melbourne, Mumbai, Nairobi, New Delhi, Perth, Pittsburgh, and Toronto.

Uber is moving way beyond just ordering a vehicle.
