Apple Music has 40M subscribers, gets new worldwide head

His official role will be leading the Apple Music Worldwide team. In addition to the subscriber number, Mr. Cue announced the promotion of Oliver Schusser to the position of vice president of Apple Music & International Content.

Schusser has a fairly close relationship with Apple's SVP of Internet Software and Services Eddy Cue.

Apple Inc on Wednesday appointed a new executive to oversee its Apple Music streaming business and hit 48 million subscribers, the company said.

Schusser, who recently played a key role in Apple's recent $400m acquisition of Shazam - which is now awaiting regulatory approval - will relocate from the United Kingdom to California for the new position. Apple offers the service in 115 countries. The previous count, released a month ago, showed Apple with 38 million paying Music members, an increase of 2 million (5.6%) from February to March.

Apple Music is growing at a steady pace, but Apple thinks it can do better with a new leader.

Spotify, however, remains far out in front, with around 75m subscribers around the globe.

We know that Apple Music is reportedly growing aster than Spotify in the U.S. by adding five percent to its subscriber base each month, compared to Spotify's two percent growth rate.
