Organ donations soar following tragic bus crash in Saskatchewan

Boulet, 21-year-old defenceman from Lethbridge, Alberta, is one of 15 people killed in bus collision with a hockey team Junior and cargo trucks in Saskatchewan. Fourteen others were injured. Before the end of the weekend, positive matches were found for six of his organs - including his heart and lungs - while others were donated to science.

"Logan made it clear previously that he signed his donor card as soon as he turned 21", Boulet's family told Global News. "This news will give hope to the desperately ill people who are waiting for that lifesaving phone call".

"Around three people who could benefit from a donated organ still die a day".

Those interested in registering as an organ donor can do so at the B.C. Transplant website.

The majority of Ontario organ donors register in person, and the number of registrations tends to fluctuate, so it can be challenging to pinpoint any single explanation for the jump, Jennifer Long said.

In British Columbia, from Friday evening as donors have registered 363 man, as the representative of the BC Transplant said by e-mail. "We work with empathy and compassion and coordinate things and just try to make it as seamless as possible", Allen says.

"Logan actually acted, he did not procrastinate - he is truly a hero". "His legacy will go on and on as an example to all Canadians of the importance of thinking about giving the gift of life today".

It now has 900 people on the waiting list.

And according to Midwest Transplant Network's research, 95 percent of people across the US support the concept of organ donation, yet only about 54 percent are registered.

For the first year ever, more than 1,500 people in the United Kingdom donated their organs after they died, with the number rising by 11 percent over the previous year.

"In the absence of the facilities at the GMC, the blood samples of the donors and the recipients are sent to Mumbai for tissue typing or matching which at times could be inconvenient and hence there is a need to set up these facilities at the GMC", said a senior faculty member.
