Luxury space hotel hopes to welcome guests by 2022 - for $800ka night

Scheduled to welcome its first guests in 2022, Aurora is a planned modular space station, capable of hosting six people at a time.

The cost of entry, as you'd expect, won't be cheap.

Houston-based Orion Span hopes to launch the "first luxury hotel in space" - the 11 metre by 4 metre Aurora Station - by late 2021 and bring guests on board the following year.

The dream will come true with launch of this first space hotel in 2021. Bigelow Aerospace LLC, founded by lodging billionaire Robert Bigelow, deployed its 8-foot, 3,000-pound inflatable activity module on the ISS in May 2016.

Mr Bunger said his goal was to make space "accessible to all", although a trip to Aurora Station will still require a three-month training regime - including a stint at a company facility in Houston, Texas - and each person will be billed a whopping $9.5m (£6.7m). While in the station, guests can enjoy the astronaut experience during a 12-day journey, soaring 200 miles above the Earth's surface in Low Earth Orbit.

The hotel will orbit Earth every 90 minutes, which means guests will see around 16 sunrises and sunsets every 24 hours. Reservations on Aurora start at $9.5 million per person, and the company is accepting refundable deposits of $80,000 to get on the reservation waitlist.

Since commercial spaceflight has yet to take humans into space, Aurora Station visitors will have three months of training, which would begin with online courses to better understand "basic spaceflight, orbital mechanics, and pressurized environments in space", officials told Bloomberg.

"We want to get people into space because it's the final frontier for our civilization", said Orion Span CEO Frank Bunger, who says the experience is geared towards wannabe astronauts with money to burn. "With Aurora Station's fastest wireless internet access in space, you'll be equipped to share your experience with friends and family on Earth instantly", the company claims.

He explained: "Aurora Station is incredibly versatile and has multiple uses beyond serving as a hotel". Van Espahbodi, managing partner of Starburst Accelerator LLC, a consulting and venture firm, added that the public-relations push behind Orion Span may be an effective way to help the company attract funding, too. We will support zero gravity research, as well as in space manufacturing.

"We're not selling a hey-let's-go-to-the-beach equivalent in space", Bunger said.

As Aurora Station continues to grow with market demand, we will also sell space condos - your own capacity aboard Aurora Station and future space stations to visit, sublease, or one day live in as you wish.
