Apple reportedly mulling first curved OLED, gesture control iPhone

Apple reportedly mulling first curved OLED, gesture control iPhone

Apple has just released a new series of adverts and tutorials for iPad and iPad Pro, focusing on Apple Pencil, Split View and more!

Gurman, who's renowned for Apple scoops, compared the touchless control feature to Samsung's Air Gestures function for Android - which lets users answer calls and browse web pages by waving their hand across their handset.

Bloomberg reported that Apple is still figuring out how iPhone users can control some tasks by moving a finger near the screen. These panels will curve inward gradually from top to bottom, and not down at the edges like Samsung's recent flagships. The report said that the iPhone display Apple is now developing detects finger gestures even without physically touching the screen.

The other part of the report also isn't entirely new - we've heard rumors about the iPhone with a curved screen for years. According to Bloomberg, Apple will be developing its processors for the Mac as early as 2020, doing away with current Intel processors powering the product. Changing the way that users interact with screens could offer something new on the market depending on how it's implemented.

The new gesture technology will take into account the proximity of a finger to the screen. Assumptions are that Apple may not be ready to mass produce such iPhones for the next two years. You'll need to get pretty close to the screen, though, because the gestures rely on technology built into the display itself. So far, every iPhone model has used a flat display. Apple is already planning to roll it out for upcoming iPhone models due out later this year. We're not talking about the distant future here, but rather a few years from now.

The Cupertino-giant also plans to use curved displays on its iPhones.
