Former CIA Director Brennan Brands Trump 'Disgraced Demagogue' Over McCabe

Trump's legal team has until now urged Robert Mueller's team to conclude their investigation into Russia's election interference as quickly as possible, but not asked that Mueller be fired.

McCabe said in a lengthy statement that he was "being singled out and treated this way because of the role I played, the actions I took, and the events I witnessed" when the president fired James Comey as the Federal Bureau of Investigation director.

McCabe, who had been set to retire on Sunday, said he was sacked in order to demean his integrity as a witness in the special counsel's probe.

McCabe began working at the FBI's NY field office in 1996, was promoted to a supervisor position at the FBI's headquarters in 2006, and held various jobs at the bureau until 2016, when he was named deputy director.

Bromwich, who himself is a former Justice Department inspector general, suggested in his statement that office treated McCabe unfairly, cleaving off from a larger investigation its findings on McCabe and not giving McCabe an adequate chance to respond to the allegations he faced.

"He has now issued two statements today, one initially saying that he was speaking on behalf of the president and then clarifying later that he was not speaking on behalf of the president, but he was speaking in his own personal capacity". Even if we had to assume that media organizations have drafts ready in case of eventual departures, the recent aggressiveness of Fox News calling for Rod Rosenstein's head just minutes after Mueller subpoenaed documents from the Trump Organization, "including some related to Russian Federation", has shown to us that White House (Trump's lawyers) repeatedly leak (s) information to Fox.

The firing comes after an internal FBI investigation into its former deputy leader, but Mr McCabe has claimed the Trump administration has made an "unprecedented effort" to destroy his reputation.

Michael R. Bromwich, McCabe's attorney, said Saturday that twitter attacks by Trump and comments by White House press secretary Sarah Sanders are "quite clearly created to put inappropriate pressure on the Attorney General to act accordingly", The Washington Post reported.

Mueller is investigating whether Trump's actions, including Comey's ouster, constitute obstruction of justice.

His removal could add to the turmoil that has enveloped the FBI since Mr Comey's firing and as the FBI continues its Trump campaign investigation that the White House has dismissed as a hoax. "America will triumph over you".

Most of the top FBI officials in on the discussions with Comey after his meetings with Mr. Trump have left the bureau in the past year, one way or another, Pegues reports.

Trump has repeatedly accused Comey and McCabe of dishonesty.

The commander in chief took to twitter to warn of "tremendous" corruption in the FBI, Justice department, and state department. They could factor into the special counsel's investigation into Trump campaign ties to Russian Federation.

McCabe defended his integrity after the news broke, telling The New York Times: "The idea that I was dishonest is just wrong".

"I would add that for me, and I think many former law enforcement personnel, it is hard to recall any precedent for the kind of personal vindictiveness the action by the executive exhibits towards a career FBI agent like McCabe, except from the long-time targets of federal law enforcement, like the mob or drug cartels", Cotter said.
