Uhuru, Raila shelved interests for country's unity - Jubilee MPs

Odinga and President Kenyatta on Friday vowed to work together to foster unity, fight corruption, promote security, rights and freedoms and economic progress.

Even though details of the meeting remained scanty, sources privy to the discussions told the Daily Nation that Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka, Ford-Kenya's Moses Wetang'ula, and Amani National Congress' Musalia Mudavadi pressed Mr Odinga, who is also leader of the Orange Democratic Movement, to explain why he kept them in the dark over his meeting with the President.

Southern Africa Centre for Constructive Resolution of Disputes (SACCORD) Executive Director Boniface Cheembe says Africa is looking at how Zambia will reciprocate following the reconciliation between Kenya President Uhuru Kenyatta and opposition leader Raila Odinga.

"The ODM Party welcomes the promise of a courageous new Kenya, rising from the pathologies of an era that must cease to exist. The US looks forward to supporting the process that was announced to bring the country together and address the various national divisions", Tillerson said upon arrival on Friday at a joint media briefing with Foreign Affairs and International Trade Cabinet Secretary, Ambassador Monica Juma. "E @UKenyatta and H.E @RailaOdinga", said a Twitter post by the ODM party.

In a statement, Mr. Guterres lauded the two leaders for committing to work together to build a united Kenya.

"In line with sentiments expressed by H.E. @UKenyatta and the Rt. Hon".

His announcement caught the other three main leaders of his National Super Alliance by surprise.

United Nations (UN) secretary-general Antonio Guterres supported the deal between Raila and Uhuru exuding confidence that the agreement would be a success.
