Russian exile Glushkov in mystery death in London

The businessman was reportedly found in his London home with the cause of death not yet clear.

Police said there is no evidence to suggest a link to the March 4 poisoning of former spy Sergei Skripal, 66, and his 33-year-old daughter, Yulia.

A former director of Russian state airline Aeroflot found dead in a London apartment on Monday was a close affiliate of the late oligarch Boris Berezovsky, according to local media reports, APA reports quoting AA.

One of his friends, the newspaper editor Damian Kudryavtsev, posted the news on his Facebook page.

In March 2013, he was found dead at his ex-wife's home in Berkshire.

Police said he committed suicide but Glushkov told The Guardian in 2013 that he suspected foul play.

A post-mortem examination will be held in due course and the death is now being treated as an unexplained, the police said.

Glushkov worked in the 1990s for the state airline Aeroflot and Berezovsky's LogoVAZ auto company.

Glushkov came to the United Kingdom after being freed from prison and spoke out against Berezovsky's death claiming he never believed his friend died of natural causes. Glushkov was subsequently accused of fraud, larceny and money laundering overseas.

Mr Glushkov gave evidence in the high profile court battle between Berezovsky and Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich in 2011.

While officers are not naming him, he is believed to be businessman Nikolai Glushkov, who was top of a list of "fugitives from justice" published by the Russian embassy which accused him of committing "severe financial offences".

"Boris was strangled. Either he did it himself or with the help of someone".

Glushkov said: "You have the deaths of Boris and Badri over a short period of time".

He added: "too many deaths [of Russian emigres] have been happening".

Glushkov died at his London home aged 68, and his cause of death is yet to be confirmed.

According to the RBK Russian news site, Glushkov was found guilty of abuse of power in a financial scandal at Aeroflot, and was convicted in absentia of fraud previous year for allegedly stealing more than $100 million from the company.

"Mr. Skripal and his daughter were poisoned with a military-grade nerve agent of a type developed by Russia", British Prime Minister Theresa May said on Monday.
