Malcolm Butler agrees to deal with Titans, agent says

Malcolm Butler agrees to deal with Titans, agent says

The NFL Free Agency period is usually full of drama, and a new development on the Malcolm Butler front would make for quite the story. The NFL Network's Ian Rapaport adds that Butler's deal is for five years and $61 million, $30 million of which is guaranteed.

Butler finished the 2017 season with 60 combined tackles, two interceptions and 12 passes defended.

Butler rose to fame when he made the game-sealing goal line interception in the Patriots' Super Bowl 49 win. Butler spent the past four seasons with the New England Patriots.

That is a nice haul for Lewis, and it falls into a similar category as Danny Amendola's reported two-year agreement with the Dolphins: While the New England Patriots would have liked to have Lewis back, they had a certain role in mind - and a financial figure to go with it - and the Titans trumped it. Butler is not coming off a career year, but he's played well in recent seasons despite often following top opposing receivers.

Despite Butler's sudden stardom, Belichick said at one point in 2015 that Butler "as much as any player that I've been around, has really not changed very much from Year 1 to Year 2". The New Orleans Saints hosted Butler on a visit but never signed him to an offer sheet.

Lewis led the Pats with 896 rushing yards on 180 carries (5.0 average) and six touchdowns in the 2017 regular season.

After a few hours of Tennessee Titans fans beginning to lose their collective minds and doubting the front office, GM Jon Robinson made his first move of the offseason. General manager Jon Robinson got his start in the National Football League as a scout with the Patriots.
