CSA apologises to Australia for mask slip-up

CSA apologises to Australia for mask slip-up

With relations between the teams already severely strained, two South African cricket officials have been photographed smiling with fans who were wearing masks created to taunt Australia vice-captain David Warner.

Two officials from Cricket South Africa are on the verge of being sacked after a photograph emerged that shows them grinning alongside fans wearing "disgraceful" Sonny Bill Williams masks.

Warner wrote the names of wife Candice plus children Ivy and Indi on his heavily-strapped hand on day three of the second Test between Australia and South Africa.

Relations between the two teams have already been strained with Warner needing to be restrained by teammates in a stairwell on the way to the dressing room in Durban as he reacted angrily to Quinton de Kock's sledge about his wife.

Controversies around Australian cricketer David Warner refuse to die down. CSA said it would follow its "normal internal processes", with regards to Eksteen and Kazi, which will likely begin with an internal investigation.

David Warner is under fire again after South Africa reportedly complained about the way he was treating the ball on day two in Port Elizabeth.

"On behalf of CSA, I extend my honest apologies to the board of Cricket Australia (CA), its officials, team management, players and their families", CSA president Chris Nenzani said in a statement.

It has been reported that the South African batsmen were none too pleased about the amount of strapping Warner had on his left hand, particularly his thumb and index finger.

Kazi has admitted that it "one of the worst judgment calls I have made". While the songs were not heard at St George's Park, the masks were seen but only after CSA officials had to intervene to allow mask-wearing fans into the stadium.

"We found out because (the spectators) contacted us and we then went to security and got them in".

The photographs, taken on Day 1 of the ongoing second Test, have since gone viral on social media. "They said "let's take a photo with you guys", revealed Kazi.
