260K AmazonBasics Power Banks Recalled Due to Fire Risk

These are the black, rubberized or metallic portable chargers with one of the following ID numbers printed on back: B00LRK8EVO, B00LRK8HJ8, B00LRK8I7O, B00LRK8IV0, B00LRK8JDC or B00ZQ4JQAA. There has been one report of chemical burns due to contact with battery acid and four reports of property damage, including fire and smoke damage.

Amazon is recalling six models of its AmazonBasics Portable Power Banks in cooperation with the US Consumer Product Safety Commission.

The recall affects six models of power bank, the 16,100mAh, 10,000mAh, 5,600mAh, 3,000mAh, 2,000mAh with Micro USB cable, and 3,000mAh with Micro USB cable.

Amazon has removed all the listings for these power banks from its website and they are no longer available for purchase.

The recall notice mentions that these AmazonBasics Portable Power Banks are at a risk of overheating which can cause them to melt and thus be a potential fire hazard. All customers that have purchased an affected unit will be contacted and asked to register their product for a refund.

They were sold at Amazon.com, Amazon Bookstores and Amazon Pop-Up Stores from December 2014 through July 2017 for $9-$40. These items are usually presented as an low-cost alternative to items from other known brands, and it covers a variety of products: cables, adapters, bags, and more. In the meantime, do not use the power bank and unplug it from any power source.
