Shaquem Griffin's 40 time stuns at Combine

Griffin ran an official 4.38 forty on Sunday and also posted 20 reps on the bench Sunday using prosthetic strapped to his arm.

"It was going up each and every day, you know, when you wake up at for in the morning, you don't really feel the juices flowing when you wake up, but as time went on, I shot through the roof", Griffin said of his adrenaline coming into the week. Griffin was recently named the inaugural Jason Witten Collegiate Man of the Year, an award presented to someone "who has demonstrated a record of leadership by exhibiting exceptional courage, integrity and sportsmanship both on and off the field".

But it also didn't stop some National Football League scouts from apparently wondering if he can make the jump to the next level, which resulted in Griffin initially being left off the list of the 330 players invited to the Combine. Originally not even selected to attend the annual dog-and-pony show that takes place in Indianapolis, Griffin absolutely astounded with his feats of strength and speed at Lucas Oil Stadium. "I still remember doing my first pull-up".

"People are going to have doubt over the things I can do and obviously it started at the bench press". I got the guys I'm here with hyping me up. "There's going to be a lot more doubters saying what I can't do, and I'm ready to prove them wrong".

"But I did it and competed with everybody else and did 20, and that's just one step closer to everything I need to accomplish".

On his first attempt, Griffin exploded from the starting line low and hard, covering the 40 yards in an astounding 4.38 seconds.

The fastest time by any linebacker in combine history and the same time his brother, Shaqill, ran the previous year.

If people were unaware of how talented Shaquem Griffin was before this past weekend, they now have no excuse to ignore his remarkable abilities.

From a Steelers' perspective, Griffin could be a hybrid inside linebacker and strong safety while still being able to slide outside and rush the passer. But he's about 30 pounds lighter than his brother and plays cornerback. JJ Watt, a three-time defensive player of the year, tweeted: "Shaquem Griffin killing it". "Productive and performed well at the combine". His superior play at the collegiate level suggests he has an excellent chance to reach this goal.
