Star Mangled Banner: Fergie apologises for jazzy version of national anthem

"The reason I was smiling is because I love the national anthem so much", Kimmel said during Tuesday's monologue.

Celebrities and viewers alike slammed the version of the anthem with some saying it was the "absolute worst" rendition of the U.S. national anthem.

Since the NBA All-Star Game, social media has shown no mercy on Fergie's singing.

"As I was filming the scene where the zombies attack me, Quentin really got into it". Some players were also unable to keep a straight face during her performance.

Fergie has issued a formal statement apologising for her poorly received rendition of the USA national anthem at the NBA All-Star game on Sunday.

"I feel like I need to address something that happened Sunday night at the NBA All-Star Game", Kimmel said. Each artist will try to make the national anthem their own in some way to potentially leave the mark as one of the best renditions, but besides Jimi Hendrix, Whitney Houston, and other supremely-gifted artists, there are very few that are actually memorable. "Just regular is fine", he said.

Roseanne Barr - whose notorious performance of the song at a 1990 Padres/Reds baseball game included spitting and grabbing her crotch, causing a national uproar - said even her rendition was better than Fergie's.

While the internet was mainly slamming her, celeb friends of the star did their best to defend the singer, calling her version creative.

Kimmel didn't shy away giving some advice to the former Black Eyed Peas band member for her future performances of the "Star-Spangled Banner" written by Francis Scott Key back in 1814.

Fergie apologized Monday for the performance following the backlash she received.
