Trump blocks publication of memo into Russian interference

A week after authorizing the release of the notorious "Nunes memo", the White House announced on Friday night that it was blocking the public release of a Democratic memo based on the same underlying intelligence as the GOP document.

Presidential lawyer Donald F. McGhan II says the second memo "contains numerous properly classified and especially sensitive passages" and should be revised.

The Democrats have prepared a document in response to the release of the GOP memo that shed a light on the FBI's and the Justice Department's bias against Donald Trump in the first stages of the investigation of the alleged Russian meddling into the 2016 U.S. presidential election.

Noting Trump wished Porter luck and said he did a good job, Biden said, "That's like saying, 'That ax murderer out there, he's a great painter.' " Biden explained that sexual misconduct should not be explained away by the abilities or skills someone has.

The committee had earlier voted along party lines against releasing both the Democratic and Republican memos at the same time. Trump might have been able to obstruct the release of a memo, but soon he might be powerless to stop Schiff and the Russian Federation investigation. That memo, spearheaded by the panel's chairman, Rep. Devin Nunes of California, was released last week.

The White House has denied it is considering terminating Rosenstein.

FBI Chief Christopher Wray and Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein in other letter indicated that releasing this memo would present concerns for the "protection of intelligence sources and methods, ongoing investigations and other similarly sensitive information".

But the Grassley-Graham criminal referral says that the Senate Judiciary Committee's review of the FISA application also shows the "bulk of the application consists of allegations" that were disclosed to the Federal Bureau of Investigation by Mr. Steele and "are also outlined in the Steele dossier".

"Any minor redactions should be made as quickly as possible and the memo should be released", she said. Millions of Americans are asking one simple question: "what is he hiding?" he said.

Democrats said that memo mischaracterised sensitive information and was meant to discredit Special Counsel Robert Mueller's investigation of potential collusion between Mr Trump's 2016 campaign and Russian Federation. "President Trump clearly doesn't want Americans to have access to the truth", Crowley said.

The Nunes memo alleged that senior DOJ officials inappropriately relied on the research, paid for in part by Hillary Clinton, to obtain a surveillance warrant on Trump campaign aide Carter Page.

"The President's decision to block the Democratic memo from release is part of a unsafe and desperate pattern of cover-up on the part of the President", she added.

Marc Short, White House legislative director, said the president believes Rep. Adam B. Schiff of California, the ranking Democrat on the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence and the author of the memo, intentionally put "methods and sources that he knew would need to be redacted" into the document.
