Olympics: White "excited" about competing in skateboarding at Tokyo 2020

Olympics: White

Ayumu Hirano won his second straight Olympic silver medal in the snowboarding men's halfpipe at the Pyeongchang Games on Wednesday after Shaun White of the United States denied him gold in his final run. On the other hand, White, who scored a high of 98.50 in qualifying, said it was important for him to experience the weight of the world in a final run.

He more than fulfilled the task of performing one of the most impressive halfpipe performances in the history of the Winter Games. She had already secured gold with her first run, nailing a backside air, frontside 1080, cab 720, frontside 90, McTwist and frontside inverted 720, according to NBC Olympics.

This allowed Japan's Ayumu Hirano to take the lead by one point heading into the third and deciding run for the gold medal, setting up a nail biter of a finish with Australia's Scotty James nipping at their heels for a medal position.

There were no ideal scores and no arguments about judging as the world's greatest snowboarder and his young contemporary left Scotty James with a halfpipe bronze medal at the Winter Olympics.

It was the jubilant White who came up with the goods though, capturing his third Games halfpipe gold on the last run of competition as he overtook young gun Hirano.

The four-time Olympian injured his wrist in a fall in slopestyle and fell on his final run in the halfpipe, finishing fourth in 2014 Sochi Olympics.

White called his winning run in the tricky conditions in South Korea "one of the most challenging Ive ever done" because of the combinations he pulled off. "I was so overwhelmed with wanting to talk about how awesome today was, and wanting to share my experience".

The physical traits are there for him to succeed, as he is trying to complete back-to-back 1440s for his run.

The American had won in Turin and Vancouver before missing the medals in Sochi. Shaun White tells me it is real.

In his initial response to the suit, White reportedly said, "Many years ago, I exchanged texts with a friend who is now using them to craft a bogus lawsuit".

"You know honestly, I just felt it inside".

The American will be 35 by the time the next Winter Olympics is held in Beijing in 2022 but his focus is on a closer goal. "I'm truly sorry that I chose the word 'gossip, '" he said.

The American great's place in South Korea was under threat after he needed 62 stitches in his face in October.

U.S. Snowboarding and Freeskiing spokesman Nick Alexakos then tried to turn the news conference back to the discussion of White's performance.
