Google Wants To Bring Smart Replies To More Chat Apps

A development team inside Google's Area 120 incubator wants to bring Smart Reply to a variety of third-party messaging apps. That's Smart Reply in action, and it's going to start rolling out to chat platforms in the future. The project, simply called "Reply", will allow users who sign up - now available to Android users only - the ability to use "smart replies" in their favorite mainstream chat applications like Facebook Messenger, Skype, Twitter's Direct Message feature, Whatsapp, and Hangouts. Here, it offers suggested responses to questions like "Are you at the restaurant?" or "When can you be home?" There's also an automated Vacation Responder that is able to check the user's calendar and tell people that the user is now not at work. The feature was created to automatically suggest quick replies to emails based on the context of the messages received by the user.

Now you might be thinking how that AI-based system will reply to the messages received from the second person.

Additionally, Reply can determine when you're driving and reply to any texts to let people know you're behind the wheel, messages that Reply determines are more important than others (such as "Where are you?!") can still notify you even if your phone is on silent, and vacation responses will automatically be sent out if someone tries to contact you and Reply sees that you've noted on your calendar that you're taking some time off. An example would be receiving messages while driving; using your phone's Global Positioning System and Bluetooth sensors, Smart Reply would know you are in your auto.

Separately, Google is also working on a stories format for its search result.

In an email to the volunteers, Area 120 said, "You probably get a lot of messages". Smart Reply functionality could save on-the-go workers time while improving collaboration.

Google seems to be testing an app called 'Reply, ' which adds smart replies to other messaging apps.

To join the beta program for Reply, Android users can simply sign up here.

One of the features of Inbox and Gmail that Google rolled out a couple of years ago is Smart Reply. "Like all other projects within Area 120, it's a very early experiment so there aren't many details to share right now".
