US President signs major budget bill

The House budget passed by an 85-27 vote, largely along partisan lines, though 12 Democrats joined Republicans in voting for the bill.

The deal suspends a 2011 budget law championed by conservatives that set hard caps on discretionary spending and included an automatic trigger known as "sequester" cuts if Congress attempted to bust those spending caps.

But the delay to the vote that pushed it past midnight put the government in a brief shutdown while congressional proceedings continued into the early morning. Sen. Congress needs to approve a spending bill by midnight Thursday to avoid a partial government shutdown.

The legislation that Trump signed Friday is expected to translate to billions more for one of the Pentagon's highest priorities: missile defense.

He also said that the deal has the support of the White House, although he did not provide any specifics in that regard, Efe reported.

President Donald Trump applauded the passage of a bipartisan budget deal to break the short-lived government shutdown, but also bemoaned some of the deal's increased spending.

The massive nature of the deal perturbed some conservative Republicans because of concerns about the federal deficit. While fiscal conservatives were way of adding billions of dollars to the national debt two months after passing a $1.5 trillion (Dh5.5 trillion) tax cut package, liberals were in revolt because the deal does nothing to protect young undocumented immigrants from deportation.

That agreement includes a $300 billion increase to both military and non-military spending limits for this year and 2019, and raises the debt until March 1 next year.

Friday's deal allows for $US165 billion in additional defence spending over two years that will help Trump deliver on his promise to rebuild the military. "I didn't come up here to be liked", said Paul, whose actions during a seven-year Senate career make it likely that many colleagues would silently answer, "Mission accomplished".

None of the added spending will be offset by budget savings elsewhere or revenue increases, relying instead on government borrowing.

The enormous increases in defense spending agreed to by lawmakers on Friday go beyond what Trump ask for.

The shutdown came after a one man protest from Sen.

USA stocks plunged on Thursday on heavy volume, throwing off course a almost nine-year bull run. "I lost", Ryan told CNN Friday morning.

Paul took to the Senate floor several times Thursday and refused to agree to move up the time for a vote on the bill, which required unanimous consent from all senators.

Other Senators from both parties were not pleased with Paul's tactics.

"I can't in all good honesty and all good faith just look the other way because my party is now complicit in the deficits", he said. "But it's certainly disappointing", said Americans for Prosperity president Tim Phillips of the budget.

After the vote succeeded, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell kept his word to move to open an immigration debate next week. I did what I did a year ago.

On Sept. 5, President Trump terminated the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program, the Obama-era initiative that has protected almost 800,000 of them from deportation.

Trump urged Congress to act before then.

The first was a result of Senate Democrats' strategy on immigration.

The House could be called into session at any moment.

Sen. Lindsey Graham, R-S.C., says the most Congress maybe able to accomplish is a temporary measure to continue the DACA program for another year or more.
