NCAA Tournament Selection Committee Reveals Top 16 Teams of Current Bracket

Four months before Selection Sunday, Virginia is college basketball's top team in the eyes of the NCAA tournament selection committee.

Virginia was the overall No. 1 seed followed by Villanova, Xavier and Purdue. It placed the Spartans in the South Region as the field's No. 11 overall seed.

"Despite UVA's loss Saturday, we felt that based on their 13 wins in the first two quadrants, they deserved to remain on top". The Boilermakers were given the West's No. 1 seed.

Villanova, the No. 2 overall seed, tops the East Region in Boston with Duke, Texas Tech and Ohio State.

If Clemson (20-4, 9-3) can secure a No. 3 seed or better it would mark the highest seed ever for the Tigers. And the No. 4 seeds would be Tennessee, Ohio State, Arizona and Oklahoma.

Duke is now the No. 7 team in the nation in the eyes of the NCAA men's basketball selection committee, which revealed its top 16 teams up to this point in the season Sunday afternoon on CBS.

So while Virginia Tech's away win vs. Virginia was an RPI top-50 win past year, it is now a Quadrant 1 win. The No. 3 seeds would be Clemson, Texas Tech, Michigan State and UNC.

The Blue Devils were widely thought to be a strong candidate for a No. 1 seed before last Saturday's stunning loss to St. John's, and the defeat against the Tar Heels Thursday night made matters worse.
