US drone strikes kill 11

On Jan 17, two suspected militants were killed and another was injured when United States drones fired missiles at some locations on both sides of the Pak-Afghan border in Kurram Agency's Badshah Kot area.

Two separate US drone strikes struck a militant compound in a northwestern tribal region of Pakistan and a vehicle in Afghanistan, killing 11 militants, mostly from the Taliban-affiliated Haqqani network, officials said Friday.

He is the third Pakistan Taliban commander killed in a U.S. drone strike in Afghanistan during the last six months.

According to local officials, two missiles were fired at the compound in the Gorwek area across the border near Zero Point, Dawn reported.

The officials spoke on condition of anonymity because they are not authorized to speak to the media.

When asked about Trump's allegations, Asif said that Pakistan wanted better ties with the U.S.

Senior officials from Afghanistan and Pakistan held talks here on Friday on key issues around security, peace and stability in the region. Afghan President Ashraf Ghani has said Pakistan is waging an "undeclared war of aggression" against his nation and has threatened armed confrontation over the fence across the disputed Durand Line, which divided the largely ethnic Pashtun communities in the region during British colonial rule.

The second meeting of Pakistan and Afghanistan joint working group will focus on ensuring comprehensive engagement for countering terrorism, refugee repatriation, intelligence sharing, economic development through trade and transit interaction, reduction of violence through a comprehensive re-conciliatory approach.

Asif disclosed that nearly 600,000 refuges, that had been sent back to Afghanistan, had returned to Pakistan.

The border fence will stop the flow of militants crossing into both countries unchecked, Mr Asif said, adding that Pakistan also considers the return of more than two million Afghan refugees critical for peace.

Pakistan and Kabul often trade accusations that the other is harboring enemy insurgents.
