Zindine Zidane hits back at Cristiano Ronaldo doubters

CITY and Liverpool will reportedly join Arsenal in battling it out for Real Madrid's Isco this summer.

Zidane has no new injury issues ahead of Saturday's game against Real Sociedad, with his starting XI likely to again include Gareth Bale after the Wales winger's newfound popularity around the Bernabeu saw him voted by fans as the club's player of the month for January.

And according to reports the Frenchman certainly has his eyes on one man to shoulder some of the blame for the poor season as he's apparently made a decision to sell one of his stars.

Now, Zidane has come out in defence of his player, explaining he is "keen" to get back to his best.

He added: "Maybe [Ronaldo] is more motivated at the moment, and wants to show what he can do".

The Frenchman also defended his decision to sub Ronaldo off after Madrid's 2-2 draw with Levante which saw the Spanish champions twice surrender a lead. The Spaniard continued to show exactly why Real Madrid brought him in from Malaga but things soon changed this season. "We know a big game is coming, but we have worked well all week and are ready for tomorrow. We're all in this together", Zidane replied when asked about the French striker, who has a paltry two LaLiga goals to his name this season.

Zidane will be hoping his side's league form is forgotten over the tie and he will take confidence from the fact that his side have won the tournament in three of the last four seasons.

"I am happy here and I can see we're heading in the right direction, looking to win many more titles".

The Belgian has been linked with a move to the Bernabeu for a number of years now.

Chelsea have often been cited with interest in the 22-year-old, with the Spanish outlet reporting that the Blues could look towards Asensio if Eden Hazard makes the switch to Real Madrid.

Now, the player has been speaking about a possible move to Madrid.
