PM Modi Begins His 4-day Visit to Jordan, Palestine, UAE, Oman

"PM Modi will be the first Indian prime minister to visit Palestine". This was followed by the visit of President Abbas to New Delhi in May 2017. He had visited the UAE in 2015.

Terming Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit to Palestine, the first by an Indian premier, as "historic and important", Palestinian presidency today said, Modi and president Mahmoud Abbas will hold talks on the latest developments in the political process in the region as also other global issues of "common concern".

Secondly, India has contributed immensely to Palestine's nation-building efforts, including infrastructure development and capacity building.

The two leaders also addressed the plight of more than 680,000 Muslim Rohingya who have fled Myanmar since a year ago to Bangladesh after the Myanmar military cracked down in northern Rakhine State, amid witness reports of killings, looting and rape, in response to militant attacks on security forces. Both sides agreed to deepen their engagement in several areas including health, IT, tourism, youth affairs, sports, agriculture.

The fourth aspect, according to Bhaskar, is India's continuous support to the Palestinian cause at various worldwide fora.

The visit will also de-hyphenate Israel and Palestine after Modi's standalone visit to Israel last July.

"I will be undertaking bilateral visits to Palestine, United Arab Emirates and Oman from February 9th to 12th. The Indian diaspora is a bridge of friendship between India and the Gulf countries".

He will proceed to the venue of the World Government Summit where he will deliver a keynote address.

The presidency announced that president Abbas and his guest, the Indian prime minister, will hold a session of important talks, which will address the latest developments in the political process in the region because of India's worldwide stature, it said.

He said PM Modi's visit to the region reflects India's long-held position of supporting peace and stability in the region.

"We believe in the importance of our relationship with the brotherly Indian State, the support of India to the Palestinian people, and the relationship we possess with the Indian people, will not be effected by India s relations with any other State", he emphasised.

Mr Modi also asked the MPs to hold meetings at booth level to take details of various welfare schemes announced in the Budget to people and run intensive campaigns to propagate them, Mr Kumar said.
