Suzuki to invest $3 billion in its vehicle unit in India

The third-generation Maruti Suzuki Swift was launched at the Auto Expo 2018 on Thursday. While the petrol variant is priced Rs 4.99 lakh to Rs 7.29 lakh, the diesel variant is pieced between Rs 5.99 lakh and Rs 8.29 lakh (all ex-showroom). The new platform is lightweight and rigid and has helped in reducing the car's overall weight by around 90 kgs.

As far as engines are concerned, Maruti Suzuki has carried over the tried and tested 1.2-litre petrol and 1.3 diesel powertrains.

Available in both K12 VVT petrol and DDis 190 diesel engines, it will now have Maruti Suzuki's Auto Gear Shift (AGS) technology in both the trims.

The new Suzuki Swift auto has brought upgradation in its acceleration performance.

Launched in India in 2005, the Swift has been one of the top-selling models in the country, clocking a cumulative 1.8 million units in sales, but has been sidelined in the past two to three years by Maruti's own Baleno and Hyundai Motor India Ltd's i10 Grand and i20 Elite. The look is complete with diamond cut alloy wheels and LED taillights.

The new-generation Swift is the first auto to be launched through the Maruti Suzuki Arena sales outlets.

The vehicle has got the Auto Gear Shift technology for the first time, Ayukawa said. We also get a new sporty flat-bottom steering wheel, rotary air-con controls and new fabric upholstery for seats.

The new version is statd to be wider and has longer wheel base with more cabin space, headroom and luggage space than the outgoing generation auto.

Nearly $2.3 billion will be pumped in by listed unit Maruti Suzuki and the rest by manufacturing arm Suzuki Motor Gujarat to boost capacity, the Economic Times has reported.

The company had opened the bookings for the vehicle last month.

On the safety front, the new Maruti Suzuki Swift comes with dual airbags, ABS with EBD and ISOFIX as standard in all variants.
