Google Reshuffles to Bring Nest In House

Questions surrounding Nest's place in the Google universe have swirled since the mega-company acquired it in 2014. Since then, they have created their own popular portfolio of smart home products and in just the last year or so, they have sold more devices than the two previous years combined.

Operating as the Alphabet Inc. subsidiary since three years, the smart home systems maker Nest has set to reunite Google to collaborate with the hardware group of the search engine giant. Meanwhile, Google increased its own focus on the home with its line of smart-speakers, which compete with Amazon's Echo products. However, despite having a new parent company, Nest has primarily operated independently during this time. Likewise, Google Home had a stellar Holiday 2017 with regards to sales as it attempts to gain ground in the smart AI speaker market. While they have been doing well with the Google Home family and its Pixel devices, Nest will bring something more to the table, in terms of smart devices. The reason products such as Android TV and Google Home exist is because Google wants to be there, absorbing your banal chats about your favourite auto and that new bone broth your coworker's been drinking.

Nest CEO Marwan Fawaz said that moving Nest to Google is company's right decision because it makes it easier to develop new Nest products using Google's artificial intelligence technologies.

An improved range of products powered by Google can only be good, so we now have to wait to see what the future holds. It wasn't the first phone-connected thermostat to ever reach stores, but the first-gen Nest Learning Thermostat dazzled folks by offering a fresh design on a typically-utilitarian product. Wednesday's announcement cites security, energy, cost-savings and hands-free assistance as some of the reasons to buy into the smart home ideal.
