Alberta to stop importing BC wine effective immediately

Horgan said he does not believe "that the actions of Alberta are consistent with trade agreements that we have been signed province-to-province as well as nationally".

The B.C. government is well within its rights to consult with British Columbians about the potential impact of a spill on the province's economy and environment, Horgan said.

A move that would stall the Kinder Morgan Trans Mountain pipeline expansion.

"We are now in court with respect to the Kinder Morgan process and until we get a resolution from the federal court, that is an open question".

"It is our position that the government of British Columbia has no legal jurisdiction or justification to delay or impede the construction of the Trans Mountain pipeline", The Saskatchewan premier said.

On Tuesday, Alberta premier Rachel Notley announced an immediate halt of wine imports from its western neighbour.

"The tools in her toolbox that she is now looking for will be her decisions and her government's decision to make, and whether or not they are appropriate or not I am not going to judge, but they certainly do speak to the severity of the issue and the importance of the issue that the B.C. government has started", he said. Alberta, of course, is going to hit us where it hurts and that's in the pocketbook.

"I think it's going to affect related sectors, such as hospitality, bed and breakfasts, transportation, restaurants - many things that are associated with wine", he said. "If Alberta disagrees they can make that argument in the proper venue, in our court system".

"Our focus has been and will continue to be on affordability for British Columbians", said Horgan.

Anderson says Kinder Morgan never anticipated getting caught in the middle of an inter-provincial battle like this.

Horgan, speaking at a news conference in Victoria, said that he has spoken with Notley and Justin Trudeau and expressed that he is keeping his province's best interests at heart.

Premier Rachel Notley announced Tuesday that the province would no longer import B.C. wines, hitting an industry that Albertans spent $72 million on a year ago.

He wants the two provinces to negotiate their concerns. "Not almost as important as energy industry is to Alberta and Canada, but important nonetheless". "Our country can't work like this but if it takes this kind of action to get Ottawa to act, then I'm afraid we have no choice".

During question period this week, Natural Resources Minister Jim Carr defended the decision to build Trans Mountain based on a sound review process, followed a few minutes later by McKenna "eviscerating the process" before she introduces the overhaul legislation, she noted.

The war of the ros├ęs has escalated since British Columbia announced last week a public consultation to consider restricting an increase in bitumen flow to British Columbia's coast.

Trudeau refused to publicly wade into the dispute on Wednesday but said talks continue behind closed doors with the provinces. "I do think there is definitely a role for the federal government to play in resolving this dispute and dealing directly with British Columbia", Anderson said.

Fortunately for the winery in PG they don't ship to Alberta, but bell added this isn't good news for other companies, Because Alberta is the second biggest importer of BC wine products.

"Ms. Notley is simply acting like any other establishment politician up for re-election". "This should be something that the prime minister steps into and solves".
