HTC U12 Apparently Shown Off During 5G Industry Event

During a Taiwan 5G showcase event, a HTC smartphone was spotted with a thick case and has its forehead and chin covered.

While HTC may have plans to limit the number of smartphone releases this year, it is quite likely that the Taiwanese company will at least upgrade its previous flagship with a new model that could debut as the HTC U12.

The smartphone was launched outside in two storage variants one with 4GB of RAM and 64GB of internal storage and 6GB of RAM and 128GB of storage.

The HTC U11+ sports a bezel-less 6-inch Quad HD+ display with a screen resolution of 2880 x 1440 pixels along with an aspect ratio of 18:9.

That'll lead to speculation the HTC U12 will be the company's first phone to arrive boasting 5G capabilities.

HTC evidently brought its device to the event to show off gigabit LTE speeds using what's nearly certainly Qualcomm's Snapdragon 845 chipset. At the moment, the mystery phone can deliver an nearly 1 Gbps download speed (809.58 Mbps).

According to Taiwanese publication Sogi.co.tw, which was attending the industry event, HTC staff confirmed that the smartphone on display is still unannounced and will be launched later this year.

The event which also saw participation from Ericsson and Nokia witnessed unveiling of devices such as Vive PRO, Vive Focus along with unlisted virtual reality devices and other HTC phones.

The company's officials have not made any official statement about the upcoming smartphone, so it's better to take this information which a pinch of salt.
