How to turn OFF Instagram's controversial 'Last Active' feature

How to turn OFF Instagram's controversial 'Last Active' feature

We lately rolled out the ability to see when people you follow or message in Direct were last active on Instagram, and they can see when you were last active. It's that simple. While it's annoying that they have an activity status feature in the first place, at least they're giving you an opt-out option and you won't have to spend so much time explaining why you haven't replied to that message when you're so obviously "active". After all, remember how we desperately waited for a rollout, when WhatsApp was rumored to introduce a feature that let you hide your last seen and blue ticks?

Then, scroll down to "Show Activity Status" and tap the toggle-slider to turn the feature off. If you turn off your Activity Status, you won't be able to see other people's either. Now Instagram has joined the bandwagon with a similar feature, called Activity Status. The feature reportedly shows the last time a user was browsing Instagram or had a private conversation open. Unlike current Instagram Stories, which is based on the images and video, the new feature facilitates text-only, written Stories on the platform.

However, the Activity Status will fuel Instagram addicts' anxiety even more. You will also no longer be able to tell when they were last online.

The unnerving feature appears on Instagram's direct messages section beneath followers you've been chatting with. Whatever the case, Instagram made it easy to disable the feature. If they are looking at a profile of someone who follows them but they don't follow, the profile will show "follow back" option instead of just 'follow'. This new feature is added to the latest updates for both the app's iOS as well as Android versions.
